Snehapanam

An Ayurvedic treatment involving the internal administration of medicated ghee or oil to prepare the body for detoxification. It helps lubricate the digestive tract and loosen toxins before Panchakarma therapies.

Sneha Panam is an essential preparatory procedure in Ayurveda, involving the internal administration of medicated ghee or oil to promote internal lubrication. The selection of ghee or oil depends on an individual’s constitution (Prakriti), health condition, and the specific requirements of the Panchakarma protocol.

The primary purpose of Sneha Panam is to soften and liquefy accumulated toxins (Ama), making them easier to eliminate during subsequent Panchakarma therapies. The dosage, duration, and choice of medicated ghee or oil are carefully tailored to optimize results. Typically advised for 3–7 days, the procedure involves a gradual increase in dosage to ensure proper lipid absorption and distribution throughout the body.

By preparing the body for deep detoxification, Sneham plays a vital role in internal oleation and sets the foundation for effective Panchakarma treatment.
