Dhanyamla Dhara
Dhanyamla Dhara is an Ayurvedic therapy where warm fermented herbal liquid is poured in a continuous stream over the body to reduce inflammation, stiffness, and toxins. It is particularly effective for treating conditions like arthritis, obesity, and inflammatory disorders.
Dhanyamla Dhara, also known as Sarvanga Dhanyamla Dhara, is a specialized Kerala Ayurvedic therapy designed to relieve inflammatory and Vata–Kapha disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, obesity, and chronic pain.
The term Dhanyamla Dhara comes from three Sanskrit words:
Dhanya – cereals or grains
Amla – sour or fermented
Dhara – stream or continuous pouring
In this therapy, a fermented liquid (Dhanyamla) prepared from cereals, medicinal herbs, and citrus fruits is gently poured in a rhythmic stream over the entire body (Sarvanga) at a specific temperature and height by two skilled therapists. This process, known as Parisheka Sweda (a type of fomentation therapy), promotes sweating, detoxification, and rejuvenation.
